The book I am going to review today is: His Name was Walter, By Emily Rodda. The book is truly unique as it uses a “double plot” which means having 2 stories in one book. It all starts with four students and their teacher going to an excursion. Unexpectedly, the bus breaks down so the five characters find immediate shelter in an abandoned house. Colin, Tara, Lucas, Grace and Mrs. Fiori are the five main characters in the book. While mopping up the house Colin finds a book in a secret drawer. Since everyone was getting bored Mrs. Fiori encouraged Colin to read out the book. At first, Colin thought the book was pretty stupid with this guy called Walter born in a beehive orphanage. But as he kept reading the book a queer sensation started bugging him.
This is the second plot of the story! As Walter starts working for an evil landlord who keeps his daughter locked up, he falls in love with the girl called Sparrow aka the landlord’s daughter. Walter finds out that Sparrow can actually turn into a bird. Later, the landlord turns out to be a beast, and with fury murders Walter by stabbing him in the back. Back to Colin’s story, Tara finds out that the spirit of the beast is actually living in the abandoned house in one of the old and locked rooms. They lock the beast in the abandoned house forever and pay their respects to Walter, the hero no one had heard of!
